She married Gunnar Myrdal in 1924. Alva Myrdal's work in the nuclear disarmament movement, above all else, earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982. She shared the prize with Alfonso García Robles . The Nobel Committee chose to share the prize between two prominent leaders of the disarmament movement in order to best support and celebrate that cause, citing the hope that both of them had brought to the world through their work. Alva did make her goal though. Now there are weapon free-zones in Europe and all around the world.
